Congratulations to everyone who took part in our Science Week essay competition. We received a phenomenal number of entries of an exceptionally high standard, and it was definitely a difficult choice for the judges.

In the essay competition on the theme “Science — Shaping Our World”:

    • First prize went to Sean Burke (Senior Cycle) and Jayne Groarke (Junior Cycle).
    • The runners-up were Bobby Tang (Senior Cycle) and Nicola Walsh (Junior Cycle).

    Winning Students

Aoife O’Donoghue from the Tyndall National Institute with some of the winners
    of the Science Snaps competition.

The winners from the Science Week Essay Competition and the Science Snaps photography competition were presented with their prizes by Una Halligan from Hewlett-Packard in the Science Gallery at Trinity College, Dublin.

The winning essays and photos were exhibited at the Science Gallery in Dublin and at the Discovery science exhibition in Cork City Hall during Science Week.

A big thank you to all of our sponsors and judges, without whom the two competitions would not have been possible.

Above all we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to write their essays. From the standard we received, we would encourage all students to continue on their writing careers — especially about science!
