Dr De Stasio is scientific director of L’Oréal UK, having worked in the cosmetics sector since 1989 with particular interest in the regulatory, safety and technical aspects of the industry. He gives an overview of the modern techniques L’Oréal use to create their products and outlines the science involved in the cosmetics industry.

The final panelist, Vanessa Hyde, is quality assurance manager at Shandon Clinic with years of experience in testing medicines and beauty products. Vanessa gives an overview of the regulatory environment for the cosmetics industry in Ireland, outlining what can be classified as a cosmetic and the rule governing statements made by manufacturers about their products.

The lecture is opened to the floor for questions and a variety of topics are discussed. Karen Coleman questions each of the panelists about the safety of products available on the market and discusses the self-regulation of the cosmetics industry.
