Science Week returned to Stradbally on 30th August to celebrate 30 years of engaging the public with STEM.

Ireland’s largest music festival hit a new milestone this year, drawing an unprecedented 80,000 attendees each day. Festival goers were treated to a vibrant mix of music, comedy, thought-provoking talks, and more across a packed programme.

Among the standout moments was a special Science Week event hosted in the Mindfield area’s Theatre Tent. The session featured Ruth Freeman, Director of Research for Society at Research Ireland, in conversation with comedians Dara Ó Briain and Blindboy Boatclub. Together, they explored this year’s Science Week theme: Then. Today. Tomorrow.

Blending humour with insight, the trio delved into science past, present, and future—touching on everything from storks in ‘green socks’ to astronaut mishaps and the curious link between fairy forts and anthrax. The tent was filled to capacity, with an eager audience captivated by this unique and entertaining take on science communication.
