Celebrate 30 years of Science Week in Dublin’s Merrion Square!
Experience the awe-inspiring Museum of the Moon, a seven-metre diameter installation by internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram, featuring high-resolution NASA imagery of the lunar surface. Nestled in Merrion Square, this stunning artwork offers visitors a breathtakingly realistic view of the Moon, inviting all to appreciate its beauty and vast scale up close.
The installation will be accompanied by a specially curated programme of performances, reflecting science through music from some of Ireland’s most dynamic performers:
Thursday 13th November
6pm – Mellow Tonics
Opening the Merrion Square experience, sink into Mellow Tonics’ immersive choral work inspired by Music and Maths from Bjork to Kate Bush.
7pm – Ficino Ensemble
Experience Music for Spheres – a spellbinding string performance inspired by the celestial. Ficino Ensemble weaves together Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, and works by Philip Glass and Terry Riley in a meditation on the harmony of the cosmos. Ficino Ensemble will be joined by Méav Ní Mhaolchatha for a special performance.
8pm – Arveene
Closing the opening night, Arveene takes us on a sonic voyage through Science and Space – a live mash-up of sci-fi soundtracks and cosmic beats. Featuring a special spoken word performance by Chandrika Narayanan-Mohan: this is physics reimagined for the dancefloor.
The event opens in Merrion Square Park on Thursday, 13 November at 5pm. The event is free to the public and non-ticketed.
