Museum of the Moon @ Merrion Square

UPDATE: Due to a severe weather warning for tomorrow (Friday 14th), activities for Friday have been cancelled. Please be assured that the show resumes with a full schedule on Saturday 15th.

Celebrate 30 years of Science Week in Dublin’s Merrion Square!

Experience the awe-inspiring Museum of the Moon, a seven-metre diameter installation by internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram, featuring high-resolution NASA imagery of the lunar surface. Nestled in Merrion Square, this stunning artwork offers visitors a breathtakingly realistic view of the Moon, inviting all to appreciate its beauty and vast scale up close.

The installation will be accompanied by a specially curated programme of performances, reflecting science through music from some of Ireland’s most dynamic performers:

Thursday 13th November
6pm – Mellow Tonics
Opening the Merrion Square experience, sink into Mellow Tonics’ immersive choral work inspired by Music and Maths from Bjork to Kate Bush.

7pm – Ficino Ensemble
Experience Music for Spheres – a spellbinding string performance inspired by the celestial. Ficino Ensemble weaves together Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, and works by Philip Glass and Terry Riley in a meditation on the harmony of the cosmos. Ficino Ensemble will be joined by Méav Ní Mhaolchatha for a special performance.
8pm – Arveene
Closing the opening night, Arveene takes us on a sonic voyage through Science and Space – a live mash-up of sci-fi soundtracks and cosmic beats. Featuring a special spoken word performance by Chandrika Narayanan-Mohan: this is physics reimagined for the dancefloor.

Friday 14th November – Cancelled due to weather warnings
Saturday 15th November
6pm – Glasshouse
Lose yourself in a meditative exploration of the cosmos. Glasshouse reimagine the music of Spiritualized: “Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space.” Simply spellbinding.
7pm – Fehdah
Astrophysicist-turned-artist Fehdah transforms the data of deep space into sound. Using real data captured from the James Webb Space Telescope, the Irish-Sierra Leonean artist fuses electronic soul, neo-afrofuturist rhythms, and West African musical traditions to turn starlight into sound – a dazzling union of music and science.
8pm – Algorave
Code meets club culture. Algorithms generate rhythm and light in this live-coded electronic performance led by Jürgen Simpson (DMARC) and Char Stiles. Expect pulsating visuals and data-driven soundscapes under the Moon.
9pm – Elaine Mai
Closing Science Week beneath the Museum of the Moon, Elaine Mai crafts an emotional, immersive DJ set that blends voices, textures, and beats in harmony with the night sky. A finale that connects the human pulse to the lunar glow.

The event opens in Merrion Square Park on Thursday, 13 November at 5pm. The event is free to the public and non-ticketed.
